More About Dr. Khandhar

When to seek a Vein Specialist?

Vein Disease is incredibly common — and manageable. But if left untreated, what starts as a small issue can lead to potentially dangerous complications.  Chronic Venous Insufficiency is a medical condition in which a person’s veins are unable to properly transport blood from the legs back to the heart.

One of the most common symptom associated with Chronic Venous Insufficiency is the appearance of varicose or spider veins. If left untreated Venous Insufficiency can cause far more serious complications.
VENOUS DISEASE IS NOT CURED ON ITS OWN
Dr. Sumit Khandhar is passionate about providing patients with most effective treatment possible.

What are varicose veins?
If you have enlarged bluish-purple or red veins popping out on your legs, then you could have varicose veins. Varicose veins are raised, large, swollen vascular vessels that appear twisted and turned through the skin’s surface. They generally develop in the legs.

WHAT CAUSES Varicose Veins?
Varicose veins can affect both men and women. They can be caused by a range of factors including:

A genetic disposition- Women are more likely to develop the varicose veins. Hormonal changes during pregnancy, pre-menstruation or menopause may be a contributing factor because female hormones tend to relax vein walls. Hormone treatments, such as birth control pills, may also increase your risk of varicose veins.

Family History- If other family members had varicose veins, there's a greater chance you will too.

Standing or sitting for prolonged periods- Due to work or lifestyle, your blood doesn't flow as well if you're in the same position for long periods.

Obesity- Being overweight puts added pressure on your veins.

Genetic disposition- The most significant contributor to varicose veins. Our veins contain valves that encourage blood flow to flow back up one way through the vein to the heart.

Do I have Varicose Veins

What are the Symptoms of Varicose Veins?
Varicose veins can cause discomfort, pain, or other symptoms, such as:
  • Burning, throbbing, and muscle cramping in your lower legs
  • Worsening pain after sitting or standing for a long time
  • An achy or heavy sensation in your legs
  • Swelling in your lower legs
  • Itching around your veins
What are my RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH VARICOSE VEINS?
When left untreated, varicose veins can negatively impact the overall quality of life. Potential symptoms and risks include:
• Burning sensations
• Clots
• Cramping
• Deep vein thrombosis
• Discomfort
• Increased inflammatory and clotting markers
• Restless legs
• Skin changes
• Ulcers
More serious risks include:
  • Clots in deep veins that can travel to the lungs
  • Venous ulcers that are very difficult to treat

What are SPIDER VEINs
Spider veins are small red, purple, or blue vessels that appear turned and twisted in the skin. Typically found on the legs and face, they can develop from weak or damaged valves as well as a final result of deeper diseased veins. They can also be caused by hormone changes, exposure to sun and injuries. While spider veins are not typically cause for concern, they can pose a detriment to your aesthetic.

VENASEAL™ CLOSURE SYSTEM

Picture
VenaSeal™ is the latest minimally invasive outpatient treatment procedure available in-office for patients suffering from vein disease. It is the first vein treatment of its kind that treats varicose veins of the legs by sealing the affected veins using a medical-grade adhesive substance to help your varicose veins close and stay shut.

In addition to sealing off your varicose veins, the VenaSeal treatment can also reduce other symptoms of Venous Reflux Disease, including:
• Tired, aching legs
• Throbbing sensations
• Itchiness
• Heavy feeling in your legs
HOW IS VENASEAL™ PERFORMED?
First, after an ultrasound identifies which veins require treatment, Dr. Sumit Khandhar will determine whether you are a candidate for VenaSeal. During the VenaSeal procedure, Dr. Sumit Khandhar will thread a small catheter (flexible tube) into the vein to be treated.
Then the VenaSeal™ adhesive is delivered into the vein and light pressure to the leg is applied for a few minutes. The catheter is removed and the procedure is completed. Patients require only a Band-aid over the puncture site and can immediately return to all activities.
ADVANTAGES OF VENASEAL™
• Convenient – your VenaSeal™ procedure will take place in the comfort of our office setting.
• Quick – the entire procedure is usually completed in just 20 minutes.
• Effective – with a success rate of 98%.
• Painless – requires only a single injection of local anesthetic.
• Minimally Invasive – so you can resume your normal activities immediately.
• No Wait Time – doesn’t require a trial of compression stockings prior to the procedure.
WHAT IS THE COST OF VENASEAL™?
As VenaSeal™ is the latest, minimally invasive treatment offered for vein treatment, currently, most insurances are now accepting Venaseal™ if medically indicated.
After a ultrasound and consultation, our specially trained staff will assist and guide you through every step to ensure a smooth and affordable process.
What should I expect after VenaSeal treatment?
When your treatment is complete, you’re free to drive home. Regular exercise is encouraged. You can return to your regular exercise routine after 48 hours. If you don’t have an active lifestyle, aim to walk for at least 10-15 minutes every day to promote healthy circulation.

RFA (Radio Frequency Ablation)

RFA (radio frequency ablation) vein closure is a revolutionary approach that can help correct spider veins and varicose veins. This minimally invasive treatment utilizes radiofrequency energy rather than laser energy to gently heat up the wall inside the varicose veins. As the veins get warmer, it becomes damaged, resulting in scar tissue to form around it. This formation of scar tissue will help close off the veins, fading them from visibility through the skin.
WHAT ARE SOME BENEFITS OF RFA VEIN CLOSURE?

Radiofrequency ablation can help deteriorate undesired or bothersome varicose veins. Patients have expressed that this type of Radiofrequency ablation can be more comfortable than some laser treatments. The recovery period is usually very short following treatment and patients will be able to walk right after the procedure.
WHAT IS THE RFA VEIN CLOSURE PROCESS LIKE?
Prior to treatment, a member of our staff will apply a local anesthesia at the treatment site for optimal patient comfort. At the start of treatment, a small incision will be made and a fine tube will be inserted into the varicose veins. Radiofrequency energy will be transmitted through the tube and into the veins, gently heating them up and closing them off. Once the treatment is finished, you will be provided with a compression stocking to be worn that will cover the treated area. Our medical staff suggests wearing this stocking for at least one week following your day of the procedure. To learn more about this process, contact us today!
IS RFA VEIN CLOSURE SAFE?

Yes, radiofrequency is a safe and effective solution that can correct the appearance of varicose veins in the legs.

These cutting-edge procedures can help.
